Description

Zinc, plasma or serum tests measure the amount of zinc in the blood. Zinc is a mineral found in many foods that is essential for good health. It helps with many bodily functions, such as growth, development, and the healing of wounds. It also helps to maintain healthy immune systems. Zinc is important for the production of hormones, such as sex hormones, as well as proteins. When these tests are used to assess an individual’s health, they can provide valuable information about the person’s mineral levels, and can indicate an underlying deficiency or other health problem. For example, low levels of zinc can indicate conditions such as deficiencies in essential vitamins, chronic diseases, or malabsorption issues, which may need to be addressed. In addition, levels of zinc can be indicators of conditions such as liver disease or diabetes, which can also need to be treated. Zinc tests can also provide information about the person’s dietary habits, and can be used to determine if the diet is lacking adequate amounts of zinc or other minerals.
