Vitamin B12 is an important nutrient that is found in many foods, and is necessary for proper red blood cell formation, neurological function, and DNA production. It is used to assess an individual’s health because low levels of Vitamin B12 can lead to symptoms like fatigue, anemia, memory loss, and depression. In some cases, severe Vitamin B12 deficiency can even increase a person’s risk for certain types of cancers.
