Description

TSH and Free T4 tests are blood tests that measure levels of certain hormones in the body. The hormones measured are the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and the Free Thyroxine (T4). TSH is produced by the pituitary gland located at the base of the brain, and it is responsible for regulating the production of T4 by the thyroid gland located in the anterior neck. T4 is a hormone that helps regulate the body’s metabolism. When these hormones are not at optimal levels, a variety of physical and mental health issues can arise, making it important to assess an individual’s hormone status. The TSH + Free T4 tests measure the levels of TSH and T4 to determine if the levels are within the normal range. If the results of the tests show that the levels of either hormone are outside of the normal range, additional testing may be recommended to further assess the individual’s health. The results of these tests can give healthcare professionals the information they need to diagnose thyroid conditions such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, and determine the best treatment approach for the individual. By assessing an individual’s hormone levels with the TSH + Free T4 tests, healthcare professionals can help ensure the individual’s overall health and well-being by helping them to manage their thyroid condition properly.
