Description

Triiodothyronine (T3) tests measure the amount of a hormone called T3 in the blood. T3 plays an essential role in the body’s ability to produce energy. It is involved in how the body uses energy from food and how it distributes energy throughout our systems. T3 is an important hormone which helps regulate metabolism, body temperature, heart rate, and muscle strength. This hormone is produced by the thyroid gland and helps to control the rate at which chemical processes are occurring in the body. By testing the amount of T3 in the blood, doctors can assess if the body is producing enough to meet its needs, or if there is an imbalance of production and release of this hormone. This is an important test to use when assessing an individual’s overall health and wellbeing, as an imbalance of the hormone can lead to fatigue, mental and physical exhaustion, muscle weakness, or difficulty losing weight.
