Description

Thyroxine (T4) Free, Direct, and S tests are blood tests that measure hormone levels related to thyroid function. The production and release of thyroid hormones is important for controlling metabolic rate and playing a role in development, maturity and growth. The Free T4 test measures the amount of free, unbound thyroxine hormones in the blood while the Direct and S tests measure the amount of total thyroxine in the blood. By measuring the amount of total and free thyroxine in the blood, doctors can determine if the thyroid gland is functioning normally and ensure that thyroxine level is in the correct range. The results of a Thyroxine Free, Direct, and S tests are used to diagnose conditions such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, and Grave’s disease. They are also used to monitor the effectiveness of treatments, such as thyroid hormone therapy.
