Thyroglobulin Antibody tests measure the amount of antibodies in a person’s body against a protein called thyroglobulin, which is produced in the thyroid and is necessary for making thyroid hormones. High levels of antibodies can indicate an infection or an underlying autoimmune disorder. This test is important for assessing a person’s health and helping to determine the best treatment plan.

Description

Thyroglobulin Antibody tests are used to measure the level of antibodies that a person has in their body against a protein called thyroglobulin. Thyroglobulin is a protein found in the thyroid and is responsible for making thyroid hormones. These antibodies can be produced by the body in response to various stimuli, such as an infection or even to the body’s own thyroid gland. If the antibodies are elevated, it could indicate that the body is fighting an infection or that the thyroid gland is not functioning properly. The results of this test also help to identify whether a person has an autoimmune disorder, such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or Grave’s disease, which can cause hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. This test is important when assessing a person’s health because it helps to identify any underlying disorders and determine the best course of action to manage them.
