Renin Activity

$0.00$78.00

Renin Activity tests measure the amount of Renin present in the bloodstream. Renin is a hormone released by the kidneys that helps balance fluid and electrolyte levels in the body, encourages the body to retain salt and water, and stimulates the release of the hormone angiotensin, leading to constriction of blood vessels and increasing blood pressure. Additionally, Renin stimulates the release of aldosterone, which is necessary for regulating sodium and potassium levels. Understanding Renin activity is essential for assessing kidney function, screening for various diseases like primary aldosteronism, and evaluating individuals’ responses to treatments. High Renin activity may indicate potential kidney damage or insufficiency, making it important to perform the test to assess overall health.

Description

Renin Activity tests measure the level of Renin in the blood stream. Renin is a key hormone released by the kidneys which helps to regulate the balance of fluid and electrolytes in the body. Specifically, Renin encourages the body’s tissues to retain salt and water and helps to release a hormone called angiotensin which leads to a narrowing of the vessels to increase blood pressure. The activity of Renin is associated with stimulating the release of aldosterone which helps regulate the sodium and potassium levels in the body. The Renin Activity test is useful to assess kidney function, to screen for diseases such as primary aldosteronism, and to assess an individual’s response to various types of treatments. High Renin activity can indicate potential kidney damage or insufficiency and therefore, it is important to perform Renin activity tests in an individual to assess their overall health.
