Description

Insulin tests measure the amount of a hormone called insulin in the blood. Insulin is produced by the pancreas and helps the body use sugar (glucose) for energy. High levels of insulin can indicate conditions such as diabetes, while low levels can indicate problems with the pancreas. Testing for insulin is important when assessing an individual’s health because it helps to diagnose diabetes, a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels, as well as potential pancreatic problems. The results of an insulin test can help doctors adjust medication, diet, and lifestyle adjustments to improve an individual’s overall health.
