Description

The IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1) test is a blood test used to measure the amount of IGF-1 present in the body. IGF-1 is a hormone produced in the liver that is important for growth and development, as well as for other physiological tasks. It plays a role in metabolism, cell division, and regulating levels of sugar in the bloodstream. In adults, it helps maintain normal body composition, and is also known to be involved in the immune system’s response to infection. Measuring a person’s IGF-1 levels can help provide a more thorough evaluation of their overall health and well-being. It is especially important for women undergoing hormone replacement therapy, as IGF-1 levels can help indicate the effectiveness of the treatment and the status of hormone levels. It is also used to diagnose health issues such as growth hormone deficiency, pituitary conditions, and liver conditions.
