Description

Calcium tests are used to measure the amount of calcium in the blood. Having too much or too little calcium can lead to different health problems, including bone loss, bone fractures, kidney stones, and other problems. Calcium is a mineral that helps keep bones strong and helps muscles contract. It is also important for the nervous system. It helps keep the heart beating in a regular rhythm and regulates blood pressure. Calcium tests measure the amount of calcium in the body to make sure that the levels are within the normal range. The results of a calcium test may be used to diagnose and monitor conditions affecting calcium levels, such as parathyroid disease, bone diseases, or malabsorption syndromes. The test may also be used to determine the effectiveness of medications used to treat these conditions.
