Description

The Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Ab test measures antibodies that attack an enzyme called thyroid peroxidase, which is an important part of the way the thyroid gland produces hormones. The test can help determine if someone has an autoimmune disorder such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, which can affect the thyroid gland’s ability to produce its hormones. The results of this test can provide valuable information about how your thyroid is functioning and can help diagnose and treat problems with the thyroid gland. If the levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies are very high, it is likely that there is an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid gland. In this case, further testing and treatment may be needed to diagnose and treat the condition. The TPO Ab test is an important part of assessing an individual’s overall health and is often ordered in combination with other tests to help diagnose and treat any potential thyroid-related issues.
