Description

Existing Patient Weight Loss and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) – Male panel is a series of blood tests that are crucial for monitoring and managing Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) in men, especially when combined with weight loss objectives. Here’s a straightforward explanation of each test and its significance:

Estradiol: This test measures the level of estradiol, a form of estrogen, in the body. Even in men, estrogen is important for bone health and mood regulation. Monitoring estradiol helps in balancing hormones during HRT.

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) 14: This is a group of tests that check your liver and kidney function, blood sugar levels, electrolyte balance, and more. It’s a general health check to ensure your body is responding well to HRT.

CBC (Complete Blood Count) with Diff/Plate: This test measures different types of blood cells. It’s important to detect conditions like anemia or infection and to monitor overall blood health during HRT.

Lipid Panel, Standard: This test measures the levels of fats in the blood, including cholesterol. Since hormone levels can impact cholesterol, this test is crucial for heart health during HRT.

TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone): This hormone controls your thyroid gland, which affects your metabolism. The test is important to see if HRT is influencing your thyroid function, which can impact your energy levels and weight.

Testosterone, Total: This test measures the total amount of testosterone, a key male hormone. Monitoring testosterone levels is central to HRT, affecting everything from muscle mass to mood.

PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen): This test measures PSA levels, which can indicate prostate health. It’s important because some forms of HRT can affect the prostate.

Calcitonin, Serum: Calcitonin is involved in calcium and bone metabolism. This test helps in monitoring bone health, especially crucial in HRT.

Hemoglobin A1c: This test shows your average blood sugar levels over the past 2-3 months. It’s important to monitor, especially if you’re at risk for diabetes, as HRT can affect blood sugar levels.

Triiodothyronine (T3), Free: This measures the level of T3, an active thyroid hormone, which gives insight into your metabolic health. It’s especially relevant in the context of weight loss and HRT.

Thyroid Antibodies: These tests check for autoimmune conditions that affect the thyroid, which can be important in managing HRT and understanding how it impacts your body.
